Welcome Starbursts!

Introduction

Greetings, parents of the little earthlings – it is an honor to have you here.

The 7 to 11 Art Competition is designed to accommodate the wonder, curiosity, creativity and skill level of our youngest talents – the Starbursts. At this age these young talents may be found doodling in the back of their notebooks, on the walls, even the furniture, or gifting you pretty drawings of you or the family.

The Maunamars-themed art competition is a way to acknowledge and celebrate those moments. It is our way of showing them that their talents are valuable and worth nurturing. Starbursts are born to shine, let’s show them that they glow and twinkle like the newborn stars that they are.

The Galactic Mission

The prompt for the 7 to 11 Art Competition is: “Draw your favorite cartoon character”. Let their creativity burst into reimagined versions of their favorite stars.

Prizes

Each participating Starburst has a chance to win a fun child friendly surprise!

1st Place – A toy set with their favorite cartoon character.

2nd Place – A fun and creative art kit to supply their creative needs.

3rd Place -A colourful stationery set to make their next masterpiece.

Each prize is carefully chosen to the nurture the starburst’s creativity and facilitate the expression of their talent.

Competition Format

While this competition is open to students 7 to 11 years old, to be fair the students who are 7 to 9 years old will be grouped in the Mini-me starburst sub-group separately from the Mega-me sub-group of 10 to 11 years old. Therefore there will be a total of 6 prize winners. The top 6 will be featured in my blog post.

Competition Rules and Requirements

All parents and their child participants are expected to operate within the boundaries of the competition rules and requirements. All artwork submitted for entry must be the original of the participating child. No stolen, traced or printed templates is allowed. Failure to comply will result in disqualification and rejection of an entry.

Judging Criteria

Our Mini- Me and Mega-Me Starburst participants will not be judged based on technical skills. It’s not going to be about who can make the best art but rather who can think creatively and express themselves with care. Maunamars will be looking for four core elements:

  • Effort- Completion of the prompt, character placement, how well it is coloured, and care.
  • Recognition- The drawing does not have to be perfect – we just need to be able to tell who the character is by looking at it.
  • Presentation- How we present ourselves matters. It is good to encourage children to do neat and tidy work. Starbursts are expected to draw on a clean page or try to keep the page tidy.
  • Personal Flare – It’s a big bonus if the child adds their own personal touch to the drawing, like adding sparkles or tiny hearts – elements that expresses their personality.

Bonus Tip: Give your child a set of art tools to work. Gently explain to your child what to do (in fact you can even join them and draw your favorite cartoon character too), then let them draw their character by themselves. Allow them to choose the colors on their own, only guide them while watching. This is a healthy way to bond with your child and learn more about how they think.
